Road Closures

Bedford Borough Council close some roads on an annual basis to facilitate some of its events. This section will identify these closures in advance and offer a number of alternative travel options for all affected residents and road users.

Christmas Lights Switch on! - Tuesday 29th November 2011

The following roads will be closed on Tuesday 29th November as part of the Christmas Lights Switch on Event and unless specified wil run from 5pm-9pm:

The Embankment - from its junction with Newnham Road and Bushmead Avenue

Albany Road, Rothsay Road & Bushmead Avenue - closed at its junction with the Embankment and Waterloo Road.

Mill Street - from its junction with St Cuthberts roundabout

High Street - at junction of St Peter's Street and the Broadway 

Victorian Christmas Fair & High Street Continental Market

Following the trial closure for the Fair in 2010, Bedford High Street will once again close to accomodate a continental market.

The High Street will close for traffic at 7pm on Thursday 8th December and remain closed until 7pm on Sunday 11th December.  

We are currently working with highways and the traffic management company to devise a number of alternate routes around the town and will publish these as soon as they become available.
