Kite Festival

2012 Catering Pack - Click Here
Following the success of previous International Kite Festivals, the event will once again take place on Russell Park over the bank holiday weekend of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th June 2012, with Diamond Jubilee Celebrations on Sunday 3rd, live Music from a stage in the Park on Monday 4th and It’s a Knockout on Tuesday 5th June.
As in previous Festivals, the Kite Festival will showcase Kites from the four corners of the globe; in the past we have had flyers form America, Canada, Japan, China, Germany, France, Holland, Belgium and a member of the Bali Royal family! We also have domestic flyers from around the UK. The programme throughout the weekend will feature Kites never seen before in the UK and children’s and adults workshops in the Kite Marquee.

The Kite Festival has the unique ability to engage and enable al ages to take part; anyone can fly a Kite! A special arena for members of the public to fly their own or made in the workshop kites will also be available on site. Based on the 2011 footfall, we anticipate approximately 40,000 spectators to attend over the weekend.
Alongside the various demonstrations in the arena will be a whole host of other attractions, food and drink, entertainment, music and kite stalls specialising in kite equipment and other accessories.
New for 2012
To celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee we are holding two additional days of entertainment on the park on Monday 4th & Tuesday 5th June.
Music in the Park
On Monday 4th June the best of Bedford’s local bands will have the opportunity to perform in the Park with a chance to win a slot on the main stage at the River Festival.
If you are in a local band and wish to perform, please contact the Events Team.
It’s a Knockout!
The Park will transform on Tuesday 5th June with teams of ten taking part in ‘It’s Knockout’ with large inflatables battling for overall supremacy.
